Here in Reading, Save Our Services are supposed to have our June meeting on the night of the strikes. But this hardly seems suitable! So instead, we want to make this our own day-of-action and celebrate the growing resistance to austerity and privatisation, on the picket lines, on a protest and at a party!
That’s right, we will hold a party for all striking workers and SOS activists and friends and family from 8pm on June 30th.
Taking place at The Blagrave Arms, on Blagrave Street (between O’Neills and the Station, near the Old Town Hall), the party will feature a FREE BUFFET plus LIVE MUSIC from the bloody marvelous Eddie Chilvers.
Please come along and bring your friends!!
Please see below for everything else we will be up to on the day itself and please join us for as much of it as possible
Before that though just a couple of other points:
Plenty of anti-cuts activists are encouraging all of us to ‘Generalise the Strike’ as far as possible, and are encouraging everyone to avoid going to work on June 30th if at all possible. If you are feeling stressed by the whole situation, please look after your health. Call in sick if necessary! If you are not in a union, give us a shout, we can either direct you to your correct union or if you need help urgently, trained union reps like myself will do our best to support you.
The IWW Printworkers Union have produced full-colour posters to support the J30 strikes (see attached images). I have several of these and urgently need anyone willing to go out and put them around town. Please get in touch with me asap.
In other news, just a reminder that SOS Secretary Kat Dixon will be presenting our petition against cuts to Bus Pass Concessions at the Council meeting this Tuesday 28th June at 6.30pm ish. Please come along and support our petition if you can.
Remember, please see below for our full plans for J30 – See you there folks
